Freedom Uses Draft to Acquire Colorado Star
Norwegian League and National Team Standout Also To Join Squad

Washington Freedom has selected defender Nikki Marshall, from the University of Colorado. in the first round of the 2010 Women’s Professional Soccer draft.  Marshall is a member of the United States U-23 Women’s National Team, and was a member of the US U-20 Women’s National Team.  Nikki was one of two players who played every minute of every game in the 2008 U-20 World Cup in Chile. 

The Freedom also chose Washington State midfielder Carly Dobratz in the second round and Miami midfielder Beverly Goebel in the third. Additionally, Norwegian International forward Lene Mykjaland will join the Freedom for the 2010 Women’s Professional Soccer season. Mykjaland, a member of Roa in Norway’s Toppserien league, is also a veteran member of the Norwegian women’s national team. She established herself on the Norwegian national senior squad, having been called up to both the 2007 Women’s World Cup and the 2008 Summer Olympics team.

Coach Jim Gabarra looks forward to the 2010 season with the new additions to the Freedom’s strong team. The Washington Freedom season opener is scheduled for April 10, 2010 against the Boston Breakers at the Maryland Soccerplex.  Come out and support our WPS team.
