Coach Clune and Assistants Parker and Longo led the Blue Lightening (U09 Boys Blue Team) to the Championship game at the Herndon All Star tournament on Nov 17th & 18th.  The Lightning started the first two games on Saturday RED HOT! They won each match with convincing 4-1 and 4-0 victories.  Their last two games on Saturday were against tough competition after a long day of fun and soccer - the boys played to a 1-1 tie and then a close 2-1 loss. At the end of the first day, the Lightning was seeded 6th out of 11 teams.

Their 6th place seeding made them the #1 team in the lower flight. Being ranked #1 has it’s advantages and while other teams woke up early to face a cold early morning of soccer as Sunday matches kicked off - the Lightning received a first game bye and some extra shut eye! Their first game was against the team they’d previously defeated 4-1 (Southwestern).  This time around, they defeated them 6-1 with some of the best passing and teamwork displayed all season.

In the Championship match, they were defeated by a strong Loudoun team, 2-0.  The Blue Lightening fought hard till the very end and after the game, they held their heads high and walked across the field and applauded the Loudoun team and their parents for their winning efforts.  The kids played their hearts out and we couldn’t be more proud of them.  Well done boys!
