BRYC U19 Boys and Girls are FPYC Champions!
U12 Girls and U14 Boys Earn Finalist Honors. U8 Girls #1 Undefeated!
Twenty-two BRYC teams from U8 to U19 entered in the Fairfax Police Youth Club (FPYC) Fathers’ Day Tournament , including multiple teams of U8 Boys, U8 Girls, U9Girls, and U11 Boys.   The players - and their valiant coaches and parents - gave their entire Fathers’ Day weekend to the beautiful game and all made BRYC proud. Win, lose or draw, congratulations to all those who represented BRYC in the FPYC tournament.

Special kudos to Bob Heyer’s and Nik Gardiner’s U19 Boys and Darrell Oresky’s undefeated, untied, and unscored upon U19 Girls All Star teams who brought home Championship trophies; to John Elliot’s U12 Girls and Andy’s (Dimond and Mika) U14 Boys who earned Finalist honors; and to John Kenny’s and Matt Burke’s U8 Girls team, not playing for championship trophies but finishing undefeated.  Many of the U19 players are graduating from high school and from BRYC Recreational Soccer after many years.  They are truly leaving us at the top of their game.  The success of the U8, U12 and U14 teams gives BRYC promise for future success.

A few notes from the coaches...

From Bob Heyer for the U19 Boys:  "CONGRATULATIONS! What a way to finish the Season and our Team final curtain call! You all make it spectacular and worth every penny watching some GREAT and EXCITING SOCCER! To (watch the score go) go 1-0, 1-1, 1-2, 2-2 in the dying minutes and 3-2 with under a minute to go...WOW.  ...did Nik or I have any doubt we would do it?  NO, absolutely not, because you are WINNERS in your mind and our mind and that is what counts!

Just a FANTASTIC way to finish the season, 3rd Place SFL Season, 2nd Place SFL Tournament, and 1st Place in the All Star Tournament!  Smile...and enjoy the memories of a ’Job Well Done!’ Cheers, Bob & Nik"

From Darrell Oresky for the U19 Girls:  BRYC scored shutout victories in four games. On Saturday, BRYC defeated Reston 3-0, and Loudoun 7-0. Sunday morning, BRYC faced and defeated a strong but depleted team from Mid-County by a score of 3-0, setting up a Championship match vs. undefeated Vienna team that had also not yielded a single goal all tournament.  BRYC held the better of the play, as it had all during the tournament, scoring a goal shortly before half time. This single goal held up through the second half, giving BRYC a 1-0 victory.

BRYC played outstanding soccer during the tournament. Kasey B. at goalie, and Megan P., Cornelia W., and Katie L. on defense never yielded a serious scoring chance to our opponents, as they played every minute of the tournament. Their combined performance earned them a group MVP award. Our ball control offense, emphasizing possession and passing, presented our opponents with an impossible-to-stop offense. Eight different players scored during the tournament - Daphna M. (3), Kathleen C. (3), Amy McC. (1), Michelle O. (1) on a beautiful free kick, Lexi T. (1), Sarah B. (1), Kristen B. (2), and Sam K. (2), who scored both of her goals from the midfield, including the winning goal in the championship game.

It has been an honor to coach such an outstanding group of young ladies. Their performance once again demonstrates the strength of our soccer program in developing not only excellent soccer players, but fine young adults. ~~Coach Darrell

From Andy Dimond for the U14 Boys, aka the blue stArs: The blue stArs began play by defeating tournament hosts FPYC 3-0 in the tournament opener followed up by a close game and loss to eventual champions SYA, 2-1 in the second game of the day, tempering BRYC’s hopes for placing.  Sunday’s first game pitted BRYC against SYC.  SYC attacked furiously for the first twenty minutes to no avail as the blue stArs midfield and backline defenders held their ground and the goalkeeping crew continued making their breathtaking saves.  It was on another SYC attack sequence that resulted in a BRYC counter to put the ball in the back of the net, resulting in a 1-0 BRYC half-time lead.  SYC equalized early in the second half on a penalty kick resulting from a hand ball in the box.  SYC continued pressing their attack when another BRYC counterattack resulted in a score which the BRYC team defense protected from that point forward.  The second victory was enough to give the blue stArs the six points they needed to clinch as division Finalists.  Congratulations to the blue stArs for their teamwork on offense and defense, brilliant attacks, courage, perseverance, and well earned success.  Coaches Andy Mika and Andy Dimond.
