This Fall, 25 BRYC teams competed in the HYS All Star Cup. Over a period of months, our coaches and league officials have been preparing for this big event. Jerseys ordered, coach jackets embroidered, and cards printed, the teams kicked off extra practices three weeks ago. All leading up to a big local tournament where BRYC kids would compete against clubs from throughout Northern Virginia.
Unfortunately, weather was unkind to some of our teams. The rains came mid-week and did not stop on Friday. Some fields were closed on Saturday meaning fewer game opportunities. Some fields were closed entirely.
Regardless of the number of games or scorelines, all our BRYC coaches, players and parents did an amazing job this fall. Kudos to everyone. Here are a few team reports and photos from the experience...
U19 Girls - Seeded second out of 13 teams after Saturday - Finalist in Bracket - Coached by Darrell Oresky
Team Oresky’s U19Gs were finalists, losing in the championship game of the upper bracket. The girls swept through Saturday’s play with a 0-0 tie against SYA, a 1-0 victory over Chantilly, a 2-0 victory over FPYC, and a 0-0 tie with Team America. This seeded BRYC second out of 13 teams for play on Sunday.
Sunday morning, BRYC defeated an SYC team coached by HSGHSL champion Coach Stillman 1-0, earning back a little pride from the HSGHSL playoffs. Sunday afternoon, BRYC was finally bested by a quick and determined Reston team, losing the game 1-0.
While our goals came from just two players, Megan S. (2) and Tessa A. (2), everyone on the team played well and contributed to our success, playing through a weekend of difficult weather conditions. Congratulations to all on a great tournament. See you in the spring!

U13 Boys - Win First Place - Coached by Mitch Peyser
The U13 Boys won first place against Vienna in the championship game on Sunday! The team played two tough games and held the opposition to shutouts in both games. Scores were 2-0 and 1-0.

Black Fury (BRYC U13 Boys)
U12 Girls - Seeded first after Saturday - Coached by Megan Kipp
What a great tournament! The BRYC U-12 "Dynamite" girls won three games Saturday and tied one, putting them at the first seed going into Sunday! The girls started off against a strong Loudon team on Sunday. Despite numerous chances, the girls went to PK’s and clinched a birth to the finals! Again, the girls played a tough team from PWSI, who they had tied on Saturday, for the championship and had to endure another PK shootout coming up just short. Coach Megan could not be prouder of the girls, and their display of excellent sportsmanship, even when it wasn’t easy at times ;)

The girls had only one goal scored against them on Saturday and five for -- all by Ash! Regulation on Sunday also saw the Dynamite defense holding strong and allowing no goals! As striker, Ash scored goals on crosses, dribbling through defenders, and every other which way! Jess played fantastic at center mid, showing tremendous skill and power! Hannah had a stupendous tournament as our goalie and right midfielder! The Dynamite defense of Ashton, Erin, Soobin, Rachael and Natalie came through time after time this weekend, showing speed and skill. Mady, Kate, Georgia, and Jennifer played midfield and demonstrated fantastic soccer sense, showing their great ability with through balls and crosses! With 11 new all-stars this tournament, the girls played with skill, heart, and determination showing beautiful combination plays! Many other teams stated how well the girls played together, and their coach could not agree more! GREAT JOB DYNAMITE GIRLS!!!
BRYC U11 Girls Team Strikers - Finalist- Coached by Phil Case and Dave Maurizi
On Saturday they beat Herndon 2-1 and tied PWSI 0-0. This seeded the girls third in the top group for Sunday. On Sunday, the Strikers beat SYC 1-0 and faced the #1 seed Loudoun in the finals. The game was scoreless until Loudoun scored to take the lead midway through the second half. With only five minutes left, BRYC tied it up to send the game into a penalty kick shoot out. BRYC was edged out 4-3 in penalty kicks. The coaches were very proud of the wonderful effort by a talented group of BRYC all stars.

BRYC U10 Boys Team 1 - Champions! - Coached by Shawn Clune
On Saturday, we played a strong Prince William team in our first match and lost 4-1. In our second match, we played a good Burke team and although controlling 70% of the match, we couldn’t stay on top and lost 2-1. In the third match, we finally started to gel and one a close fought match 1-0 over a good Southwestern team. In the final game of the day, we kept the momentum going and continued to roll with a 2-0 win over a Herndon team. Our 2-2 record got us seeded eight out of 14 teams and that meant we were the top seed in the lower bracket. More importantly, it meant we got a bye Sunday morning.
Our first match on Sunday was against the same Southwestern team we’d played the day before. We improved on the previous performance winning a physical match 2-0. In the Championship game, we played a solid team from Sterling and jumped out to an early 2-0 and the boys held on the remainder of the match for their final victory. Coaches Shawn Clune and Jon Parker would like to thank all of the boys for their dedication and hard work. Each player had their individual moments of greatest on the field and they should all be proud of their performances. Finally, we’d also like to thank the parents for this two week commitment. Get some rest, you’ve earned it!

BRYC U10 Girls Team #1 - Competed with Class - Coached by Chris Massey and Diane Schiesl
In the four short games on Saturday, the U10G team scored three goals and allowed three goals. With a middle seed in their division, the team came out strong and won 2-0 in the morning game on Sunday. BRYC led 2-1 in the semi-final match, but with about two minutes left the opponents tied the game at 2-2. After nine tie-break penalty kicks BRYC just barely missed the net and lost a heartbreaking game. The U10G BRYC team competed with good play and good sportsmanship throughout the tournament.

BRYC U10 Girls Team #2 "The Shockwave" - Finalists - Coached by Kenny Kessler
The Shockwave played their hearts out, finishing with Finalist trophies and yielding only three goals for the weekend. The rain-shortened, windblown Saturday concluded with the Shockwave seeded near the middle of the division. Success came cold and early on Sunday as the Shockwave prevailed, first in penalty kicks, then 3-0 against Annandale. The Championship match saw SYSA go ahead 1-0 in the first half. In the second half, the Shockwave were relentless, shutting out SYSA and making numerous runs and shots all the way to the final seconds of the game. Despite their best efforts, the Shockwave was unable to force a tie. The final score remained SYSA 1 - BRYC 0. This team, consisting of many first-time all stars, truly came together and showed all-star attitude and effort. Way to go Shockwave!

BRYC U9 Boys Teams 1 and 2
Although BRYC U9 Boys All Stars did not get to play in the Herndon Tournament due to field closures, the two teams met on Sunday and had a fun scrimmage where everybody won!

BRYC U8 Girls Team Superstars - Coached by Damian Bruniany
The U8 Girls "Superstars" had a cold, but fun tournament weekend. After a few weeks of extra practices, the girls had gelled into a team and made some new friends. As a first "all stars" experience, the girls kept it fun and everyone has a shiny medal to help remember the experience for years to come. All the girls showed off their dribbling skills and worked hard at every game. Way to go Superstars!!! Sadly, team mate Katie will be leaving the BRYC family due to a relocation. We are so happy to have had her on our team and she will be missed next year! See you on the field in the spring...Coach D.

BRYC U8 Boys Team #2 - First All Star Tournament - Coached by Kyle Allison
This was the first time any of these boys played more than two games in a weekend. Coach Allison couldn’t be a prouder. They played their hearts out for seven games through the rain and cold. We started with a win to get them going. Alternating wins and losses through the entire tournament we ended up better than 500 with 4 wins and 3 losses. The last game was pure emotion for the player and parents on both team because we all wanted to end on the winning side. Over half the 10 member team scored goals and all contributed with solid defense.
Thanks, Coach Kyle Allison
