Two Dozen BRYC Teams to Play in Herndon All Star Tournament
Area Will Be Buzzing with Soccer Matches November 19-20

October 26 --Herndon Youth Soccer has announced the acceptance of 24 Braddock Road teams into the 11th Annual All Star Cup Tournament, November 19-20. BRYC will be among at least 25 local soccer clubs sending a total of over 400 teams (over 5,000 kids) to compete in age groups from U8 to U19, in both Boys and Girls Divisions.

Tournament coaches have been named by their League Directors and scouted players nominated by recreational season coaches.  It’s a tough job winnowing down a list of deserving nominees to a roster of from 10-18 players depending on the age group.   That done, in the next few days coaches will be notifying those players who have been selected to participate.

All Star practices can begin any time after the weekend of Game #7 (October 29) but not to interfere with recreational season practices until the following week, even if there are rain makeup games yet to be played, unless regular season championships are at stake as in the case of the U14 Girls  and the U16 and U19 Boys.

Unfortunately, from the scheduled end of the regular season to the All Star tournament there are only two weeks to bring a cohesive team together.  The coaches have a tough job, appreciated by parents and players alike...never more than when it results in a championship trophy.  But win, lose, or draw, the coaches deserve our thanks for extending their season and committing their time and energy to making the All Star experience a good one for the kids.

BRYC’s squads, and their coaches, are:

U8 Boys #1  Anthony Pagano  U8 Girls #1  Roger Friedman
U8 Boys #2  Andy McBride  U8 Girls #2  Phill Beenhouwer
U9 Boys  Mohamed Diaw  U9 Girls #1  Tracy Seamans
     U9 Girls #2  Tighe Smith
U10 Boys #1  Andy Seamans  U10 Girls #1  John Decker
U10 Boys #2  Steve Lansbury  U10 Girls #2  Siobhan Starrs
U11 Boys  Mauricio Milan  U11 Girls #1  Tom Mastal & Mike Summers
U11 Girls #2  Fred Welther & Mitch Bennett
U12 Boys  Dan Lemieux  U12 Girls  David Diaz
U13 Boys  Deanna Washington  U13 Girls  Dane Merkel
U14 Boys  Fabian Rivelis  U14 Girls  James Sullivan & Joan Smith

BRYC All Stars Associate with The Soccer Post
Spirit Wear, Store Discounts, and Post Tournament Gathering in the Works

For this season’s tournament, BRYC is pleased to be associated with The Soccer Post, a recently opened soccer gear store located in the Greenbriar Town Center in Chantilly, on Route 50 just west of the Fairfax County Parkway. The Soccer Post is owned by former BRYC coach John Reeves. Working with BRYC’s long-time All Star Tournament Coordinator, Ralph Schuetz, John has been going out of his way coming up with ideas to make this season’s tournament a memorable one for players, coaches and parents.

For the first time ever, special All Star "spirit wear" in the form of an embroidered BRYC All Stars cap, a handsome, top quality BRYC All Stars hoody, and a SELECT soccer ball in BRYC’s colors, are available for purchase.  Connect to the SoccerPostDC.com web site, click on the navigation link to "Clubs", scroll to "BRYC All Stars", enter the password "allstar", then click on the image to print an order form with prices and instructions.

Time is VERY tight. You have to work fast.  Orders must be placed by Tuesday, November 8 (Election Day!) in order for the gear to be ready for pick-up on Thursday, November 17, just prior to the tournament. (Later orders will be accepted but availability cannot be guaranteed in time for the tournament).  BRYC will receive 15% of all proceeds from the sale of these three items.

More than the immediate availability of BRYC specific items, The Soccer Post is offering BRYC All Stars players and coaches a 20% discount on all regularly priced merchandise in the store on the two days of the tournament, and a continuing 10% discount from after the tournament through the start of the spring season.  Simply wear your All Star jersey or, after the tournament, show your BRYC All Star Player Pass.  (Coaches need simply to idenfity themselves as such.)  Many teams playing their matches in western Fairfax or Loudon Counties (schedule and field assignments coming soon) could be driving right by the store on their way to or from games up and down Route 28.  Stop into the store and thank John for his support.

In addition to the 20% discount at The Soccer Post, BRYC has made special arrangements with the Dogfish Head Ale House, located right next door to The Soccer Post in the Greenbriar Town Center, offering 15% off all food purchased there on Sunday afternoon and evening.  Whether your team has won or lost, why not take the family or even the whole team to The Soccer Post followed by lunch or dinner at Dogfish Head Alehouse.  Dogfish Head isn’t the biggest restaurant around and they take no reservations, but they’re going to try to set aside an area for BRYC All Stars.

Of course until that Sunday you won’t know your game schedule, and it all depends on whether you win or lose each game what time you’re through for the day, but it would help if the restaurant had any idea at all of the total number of BRYC folks they might see that day.  So, after you’ve met your coach and your team and know where your games are scheduled, talk about it an see how many folks might be interested in coming.  Then RSVP (not as a guarantee but to give us a rough idea of numbers) by emailing brycdogfish@aol.com with an approximate number of folks who might eat there sometime on Sunday.  Please identify your age group and coach in the email.
