As part of its community outreach efforts, the Washington Spirit “adopts” about forty teams in the area each season, drawing names from a hat and sending one of their players to run a training session. This year U13/14 Girls League Director and Coach Jon Fredrick’s girls (not coincidentally called the BRYC Spirit as Jon and his assistant coach Tom Small have been staunch supporters since the Washington Spirit’s first year of play in 2013) were selected for the program when one of his player’s entries was chosen.

As part of its community outreach efforts, the Washington Spirit “adopts” about forty teams in the area each season, drawing names from a hat and sending one of their players to run a training session. This year U13/14 Girls League Director and Coach Jon Fredrick’s girls (not coincidentally called the BRYC Spirit as Jon and his assistant coach Tom Small (pictured left and right) have been staunch supporters since the Washington Spirit’s first year of play in 2013) were selected for the program when one of his player’s entries was chosen.
 
Quick to bite on the opportunity, Jon was nice enough to invite another squad of U14 girls, Coach Bob Ayers’ Black Widows, to join them for the training session, creating two full 11v11 squads for the diminutive Dydasco (a start forward on UCLA’s national championship team in 2014) to corral. The girls were attentive and happily participated in some of the same drills that the Washington Spirit run each week.

At the end of training, and after answering a few questions about her college and brief professional careers, Dydasco was besieged by a host of Spirit and Black Widow players hoping to get their soccer balls or their jerseys autographed.
