Braddock FC Takes NVSL Open Division II Championship

Finishes Spring 2016 Season with a Tie and A Win to Remain Undefeated

As if the Friday Night Lights program weren’t enough, John Kelleher is also the force behind Braddock FC, a young adult squad of mostly former BRYC players playing in the Northern Virginia Soccer League (NVSL).  After a disappointing inaugural season in the spring of 2012, failing to win a game until the last match of the season and finishing with a record of 1 – 5 – 3, the team has steadily improved.  Playing the fall and spring NVSL-affiliated seasons and then an unaffiliated summer tourney, as the team begins its fifth year and completes its 13th season John was proud to report that Braddock FC won the Open Division II Championship with an undefeated record of 8 – 0 – 1. They jumped out quick to a 7 win start and then had to come-from-behind over the last two games to earn a tie and a final win, respectively, winning the division by a single point over their closest rival with a positive goal differential of 27 (34 GF, 7 GA) and 3 shut-outs.  John also proudly reported the way they did it...with just a single player serving a 1-game suspension for accumulated yellows and not a single red-card infraction. The players are pictured following their final spring season game wearing their new Under Armour team jerseys. Go Braddock FC!

Sadly, on another note, John reported that Renegades FC which was another BRYC affiliated team that entered NVSL in the Spring ’14 season, with a roster heavy with former BRYC players, under the management of a former BRYC U19 player and eventually coached by Diego Torres (former BRYC Sr. Div Coach) folded after the Fall ’15 season. They won the Division II championship in Spring ’15 and finished second in Fall ’15. They were a top contender and it is unfortunate that they folded.
