2012 Fall Footskills

BRYC Players and Coaches Work to Improve their Footskills over the Summer

Last spring we piloted a new footskills training program. The Spring Break Footskills Sessions were well received by players, parents and coaches.

We decided to run the footskills sessions again in anticipation of the fall season. So, during the last week in July, thirty-five BRYC players met at King’s Glen Elementary on the blacktop to work on their first touch.

Once again, to lead the sessions, we brought in Coach Bill Creswick. Bill works with travel teams all over the area teaching small movements and fine touches on the ball to gain confidence, familiarity and control. Bill was assisted by three of our U14 DANGER!ous girls, Sarah, Sarah and Julia, who are veterans of his footskill work.

In response to feedback from our coaches, we added a two-hour session on the last day for our coaches. Coach Bill ran our BRYC coaches through the footskills drills that the players had been learning for four days. He gave our coaches teaching points for the moves, as well as the practical uses of each move.

Players and coaches alike worked very hard on their skills, and everyone was enthusiastic about their results!

Good footskills are the building blocks of a good player... look for more footskills sessions next season!
