All we can say is, "What a GAME!" This one was a heart-stopper from start to finish. Phoenix and the Monkeys were very evenly matched. Both teams midfielders and forwards demonstrated aggressive offensive play - moving the ball swiftly up and down the field. Both teams were excellent on the defensive end as well, showing off their tackling skills and shutting down the opposing team once they reached the goal box. The goalies showed excellent goal keeping prowess and ball distribution during both halves. To the delight of Coach Jones, the Monkeys also did a great job staying spread out on the field and not bunching up. Both teams kept us on the edge of our seats all game!

 

Team Monkeys capitalized on a beautiful pass to score first with a hard driven shot by Amara from the edge of the box. Then the Phoenix rebounded with a nice passing combo between Maggie and Arianna, with Arianna scoring. It was 1-1. After some great attacking runs on both ends, Phoenix took the lead with a nice individual effort on the part of Nadine (sore bottom included!). Second half consisted of both teams demonstrating a wonderful level of skill and coaching. Team Monkeys kept pressing closer and closer into the Phoenix box. Some nice tackling by Phoenix defenders kept the ball out of the net for a while. But Laura would not be denied for long and scored for the Monkeys late in the game. Final score 2-2 and lots of great soccer by all!
