U11-12 Guidelines

  • Size 4 Soccer Ball.
  • Allowed up to two hours of practice time per week (one, two-hour practice; two, hour-hour practices; or one, one-hour practice - per coach request).
  • Typical practice times are 4:30-5:30, 5:30-6:30, or 6:30-7:30pm (per coach request).
  • Games are played 9v9including a goalie.  Coaches should discuss this with each other and the referee before the match and play 8v8 if there are insufficient players.
  • Minimum number of players required per team to start the game is five (5).
  • Blow-out rule applies (see Coach Handbook, Parent Handbook, or P&P Manual for details).
  • Games consist of two, 30-minute halves.
  • Throw-ins are used for out-of-bounds (not kick-ins).
  • Goalie is not allowed to pick up or handle the ball on pass backs from a teammate nor outside the penalty box.
  • Offside Rule applies (players cannot be in an offside position when the ball is played).
  • Penalty kicks are taken when applicable.
  • Unlimited substitutions are allowed with permission of the referee at any stoppage in play.
  • No jewelry of any kind is allowed. Earrings may NOT be taped down. Earrings must be removed.
  • Shin guards must be worn, covered completely by socks, during all practices and games.
  • Pets are not allowed on the fields, please leave them at home.
  • Please do not yell at or berate the referees.  If you have a comment or problem related to the officiating please contact your league director or fill out a referee comment card.
  • Slide tackles are discouraged.
  • Per US Soccer guidance for players in U11 and under, headers are not permitted. On any contact of the ball with a player's head, the referee will stop play and check on the condition of the player, and allow a substitution if the player is injured.  The referee will restart as follows: Intentional heading of the ball (head-to-ball contact) will result in an Indirect Free Kick for the opposing team at the location of the violation. Unintentional heading of the ball (ball-to-head contact) will result in a drop ball.
  • Two adults must be present at all team activities.
  • Medical Liability/Treatment Forms must be carried by coach/assistant coach at all team activities.
