BRYC Shines at 2016 FPYC Fathers' Day All Star Tournament

Six Teams Bring Home Trophies. Four Teams Finish Unbeaten and Untied

BRYC All Star teams had their best showing in recent memory at the FPYC Father’s Day Tournament, June 18-19.  Congratulations to the 200+ players selected to represent BRYC in the tournament.  Thanks to all 22 coaches and their assistants who gave so unselfishly of their time through the regular season and then volunteered for more, going above and beyond for another two weeks of All Star team practices, and represented the club so well at tournament time whether they won or lost. Special thanks to BRYC’s All Star Tournament Coordinator Anthony Pagano for pulling it all together.

Four BRYC squads brought home Championship honors, including the U9 Boys coached by Mike McGinn (pictured right), the U10 Girls coached by Jennifer Oleyar (below left), the U11 Boys coached by Mike Essig (below right), and the U16 Boys coached by Scott Sarratt, who had to play through two overtime periods and then go a perfect 5 for 5 in PKs to prevail. (For a more complete story on the U16 Boys road to the championship, click here.) Two other teams were finalists, including the U9 Girls coached by Michelle Dierkes, and the photo-shy U19 Boys coached by BRYC veteran Bob Heyer. And in U8 play, where game scores are recorded but there are no championships, five BRYC squads recorded an astounding record of 16-3-1, with Coach Martel’s U8 Girls and Coach Crowder’s U9 Boys notching perfect 4-0-0 records.

While the Webmaster would love to see ALL the teams in action, and in years past would often make it to a dozen or more games over the weekend, this year he just made it to two, notably including the U9 finalist girls coached by Michelle Dierkes, ably assisted by her daughter Nicole. It was a fortuitous choice of games on Father’s Day morning, with the BRYC girls besting a Burke Athletic Club (BAC) squad by a score of 2-0 for its third win of the tournament, after beating Soccer on the Hill (SOTH) and Sterling Youth Soccer (SYSA) the previous day.

The girls would go on to win their Sunday afternoon game against a second squad from SOTH, finishing the tournament with a perfect record of 4-0-0, winning three of those games by shutout and only giving up a single goal in the other, yet only managed a second place finish to a Loudoun team that finished with an identical record, also notched three shutouts, but scored a few more goals. How exciting it would have been to see these two talented teams go head to head, for they were clearly the class of the tournament division.  Maybe next fall as U10s! In any event, the Webmaster was pleased to be there and happy to capture the team in action in the photo gallery below.

Again, congratulations to ALL the coaches and players, win, lose or draw, for representing BRYC so ably.  You can all be proud.
