Fantastic 2012 Fathers Day Weekend for BRYC All Stars

Twelve of Nineteen Teams Earn Trophies in FPYC's Annual Tournament

June 18 -- Saturday was a "good day" for BRYC in the FPYC Fathers Day Tournament, with 25 wins against 13 losses. Sunday was even better! While a few teams couldn’t find the back of the net as often as they would have liked, at the end of the day, thanks to hard work. excellent coaching, and some very talented kids who love the game, 17 of our 23 teams came away with winning or even records.

What’s even more amazing is that of the nineteen U9-U19 teams BRYC entered in the tournament, 12 of them came home with hardware to show for it, including four champions and eight finalists.

Each of the four champions went through the tournament undefeated. That included first time All Star coach Lance Sherry (U9Girls #1), and returning coach Mauricio Millian (U11Boys), each with a record of 3-0-1, eclipsed only by first-timer Tim Poole (U9Girls #2) and BRYC veteran player and coach Megan Kipp (U10Girls) with unblemished records of 4-0-0. Imagine entering two squads of U9 Girls who tallied a combined record of 7-0-1. The U10’s Championship game win came by way of Penalty Kicks...breaking a curse of seven PK losses at the Herndon tournament in the fall!

Falling just short of the Champions were the eight Finalists, each undefeated until the final match with records of 3-0-0 or 2-0-1 going into the finals, but going against teams that had records just as good and coming up just short of perfection. The list includes first-timers Joseph Harman (U9Boys) (losing on PKs) and Mark Keithley (U10Boys #2).

Others include veteran coaches Tom Mastal (U11Girls), our Registrar Dan Lemieux (U12Boys) (who lost in OT) and BRYC Training Coordinator James Sullivan (U14Girls), as well as veteran coaches Fred Welther (U11 Girls), Mitch Peyser (U16Boys), and Brian Conaway (U16Girls). Unlucky Bob Brennis (U19Boys) also had a wonderful tournament with a record of 2-1-0 but didn’t make it to the medals podium only by virtue of a points differential tie-breaker.

After setting up goals at Pine Ridge at 6:30 AM both mornings for two divisions of U10 Boys playing on one of BRYC’s home fields, Ralph Schuetz, BRYC Rec Soccer’s All Star Coordinator/Webmaster traveled the county to see and photograph a number of our All Star squads in action. It was a real treat. For those he missed, he’s waiting on photos from parents and coaches. After eight or nine years as All Star Coordinator he’s giving up the position this fall. What a nice way to end his tenure!

Team photos are posted for the teams the webmaster saw in action or coaches/parents have been kind enough to send them.  Click on "Continue" below.  (If you don’t see your team photo and you have one, email it to BRYCStars@aol.com.)  Action photo sets for the teams seen by the webmaster are on the individual league pages for Coaches Keithley (U10B), Mastal and Welther (U11G), Ford (U13B), Sullivan (U14G), Peyser(U16B), Conaway (U16G), and Brennis (U19B).  Enjoy.
