BRYC’s U16 and U19 Boys did themselves proud in Surburban Friendship League (SFL) tournament action at Bryant HS in Alexandria this weekend. Bob Heyer’s U16 "Magic" turned in two stellar performances on Saturday, besting teams from Reston and Chantilly by shutout scores of 2-0 and 3-0 respectively. On Sunday they faced determined opposition from a Springfield team but prevailed by a final score of 3-2. Congratulations to Bob and his squad for a job well done. See the complete story on the Magic's three victories below. Magic will te traveling to Richmond next weekend to take part in Midlothian Youth Soccer’s "Mega Blast."
Meanwhile, at Lake Fairfax Park in Reston, Andy Dimond’s "Blue Diamonds" played in "Grupo de la Muerte" (Group of Death), the top four teams in the SFL’s second division, all with stellar season records including no more than a single loss in eight contests. The BRYC squad struggled in its first game against Reston (as only eight players had arrived at the field when the referee’s whistle began the game) losing 2-5. In the afternoon game the Blue Diamonds may have turned in their best performance, recording a 0-0 tie against a powerful team from Clarke County. That tie would serve them well in the final standings. In Sunday’s contest the "Blue Diamonds" showed balanced offense and defense again, shutting out a team from the Northern Virginia Soccer Association by a score of 2-0. Clarke County took first place in the tourney while the BRYC squad edged out Reston for the second place trophies by virtue of it’s better result against the eventual champions. Dimond’s boys will be prepresenting BRYC in the Herndon All Star Tournament this coming weekend. Again, congratulations for a job well done. We wish both teams well in upcoming tourney action.
